The Conservation Foundation’s Silver Anniversary New Award Schemes - It’s Your Community
The Conservation Foundation, one of the first organizations to link business and the environment, is celebrating its 25th anniversary with the launch of its biggest-ever award scheme supported by leading mobile phone company O2. After a successful pilot in 2006, It’s Your Community is being re-launched with an increase in the number of projects able to benefit thanks to a major financial boost of £1million. The programme has already supported more than 100 projects with grants of up to £1000 and the new sponsorship package means up to 60 projects every month are now able to receive funding, which the Foundation manages via a specially created website, www.itsyourcommunity.co.uk .
It’s Your Community is the latest in a long list of award schemes, created and managed by The Conservation Foundation. In its 25 year history the Foundation has helped thousands of environmental projects throughout this country and around the world. The first of these were the Ford Conservation Awards announced at the Foundation’s launch in 1982, which after two years in the UK were extended throughout Europe and continued for 18 years. Other award schemes have included The Trusthouse Forte Community Chest which ran for ten years, Lloyds Alert, Co-op Save-our-Species, Disney Children’s Summit Awards and the Wessex Watermarks which are now in their 14th year and have helped nearly 500 environmental projects in the West Country.
The Foundation also provides support to members of its nationwide Parish Pump Programme who can qualify for Parish Pump Priming Awards to turn ideas into action.
In addition the Foundation has re-launched its award scheme for London’s Green Corners as part of the 25th Anniversary celebrations. First awarded in 1991, these awards are aimed at thanking the creators of small, often secret gardens which are vital for the capital’s biodiversity. The 2007 awards are being run in association with the City of Westminster and BBC London, with support from Capital & Counties.
